Please,After reading the "Letter From A Birmingham Jail" I want you to answer the following two questions:

1. What do you feel was Dr. Martin Luther King’s best argument in his letter to counter the clergy’s Unity Letter?

2. Why do you feel it was an effective argument? Was there anything in the targeting theory and Maslow’s Hierarchy that might be applicable here? How did he target the "needs" or the beliefs of the clergy who were the recipients of the letter? Remember, he was writing to the clergy in Birmingham who felt that Dr. King was an outsider who should not be in Birmingham. How effective or well targeted was Dr. King’s argument?

MY DEAR FELLOW CLERGYMEN:

While confined here in the Birmingham City Jail, I came across your recent statement calling our present activities "unwise and untimely." Seldom, if ever, do I pause to answer criticism of my work and ideas. If I sought to answer all the criticisms that cross my desk, my secretaries would be engaged in little else in the course of the day, and I would have no time for constructive work. But since I feel that you are men of genuine goodwill and your criticisms are sincerely set forth, I would like to answer your statement in what I hope will be patient and reasonable terms.

I think I should give the reason for my being in Birmingham, since you have been influenced by the argument of "outsiders coming in." I have the honor of serving as president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, an organization operating in every Southern state, with headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. We have some eighty-five affiliate organizations all across the South–one being the Alabama Christian Movement for Human Rights. Whenever necessary and possible we share staff, educational and financial resources with our affiliates. Several months ago our local affiliate here in Birmingham invited us to be on call to engage in a nonviolent direct action program if such were deemed necessary. We readily consented and when the hour came we lived up to our promises. So I am here, along with several members of my staff, because I have basic organizational ties here.

Beyond this, I am in Birmingham because injustice is here. Just as the eighth century prophets left their little villages and carried their "thus saith the Lord" far beyond the boundaries of their home towns; and just as the Apostle Paul left his little village of Tarsus and carried the gospel of Jesus Christ to practically every hamlet and city of the Graeco-Roman world, I too am compelled to carry the gospel of freedom beyond my particular home town. Like Paul, I must constantly respond to the Macedonian call for aid.

Moreover, I am cognizant of the interrelatedness of all communities and states. I cannot sit idly by in Atlanta and not be concerned about what happens in Birmingham. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly affects all indirectly. Never again can we afford to live with the narrow, provincial "outside agitator" idea. Anyone who lives inside the United States can never be considered an outsider anywhere in this country.

You deplore the demonstrations that are presently taking place in Birmingham. But I am sorry that your statement did not express a similar concern for the conditions that brought the demonstrations into being. I am sure that each of you would want to go beyond the superficial social analyst who looks merely at effects, and does not grapple with underlying causes. I would not hesitate to say that it is unfortunate that so-called demonstrations are taking place in Birmingham at this time, but I would say in more emphatic terms that it is even more unfortunate that the white power structure of this city left the ***** community with no other alternative.

In any nonviolent campaign there are four basic steps: 1) Collection of the facts to determine whether injustices are alive. 2) Negotiation. 3) Self-purification and 4) Direct action. We have gone through all of these steps in Birmingham. There can be no gainsaying of the fact that racial injustice engulfs this community.
Birmingham is probably the most thoroughly segregated city in the United States. Its ugly record of police brutality is known in every section of this country. Its unjust treatment of Negroes in the courts is a notorious reality. There have been more unsolved bombings of ***** homes and churches in Birmingham than any city in this nation. These are the hard, brutal and unbelievable facts. On the basis of these conditions, ***** leaders sought to negotiate with the city fathers. But the political leaders consistently refused to engage in good faith negotiation.

Then came the opportunity last September to talk with some of the leaders of the economic community. In these negotiating sessions certain

Dude. Read. Think. Write. Learn.

if USA, Europe go into economic recession, can the other new economic powers join China, South Korea and others to offset the Western economic decay in order to continue pushing world economic growth? is the rise of these economic powers healthy, making economic wealth more spread out?
Should the world take comfort that new economic powers Brazil, India, Russia, South Korea, the economic miracle of China, Taiwan, Singapore, etc. are progressing, while former colonial powers USA & Europe & Japan now in economic decay?hubris, karma, cosmic justice??????? true or not?

"Economic decay"? I think not! These economies are still growing but at a slower rate than desirable.

The growth of these economies is good for the world economy and for the nations where these are growing.

In the markets?

No. It seems you’re talking about the micro/neo-classical perspective, the one that says that all economics is is allocation of scarce resources.

Anyway, this perspective is concerned with allocation, so it would still have significance in your scenario. Also, human wants are generally assumed to be non-satiated (never completely satisfied), so the excess of resources would still not be enough, unless they are infinite.

But anyway this is only one perspective on economics. I consider the issues of (evolving) production, growth and living standards just as important as allocation of scarce resources.

i got 2 know that,b’coz of the economic crisis some of the construction works are stopped in uae and it’s very difficult 2 find a job in uae these days for engineers, architectures, quantity surveyors and etc…is it true?hoping to go to uae to find a job.

noncense…..talk

If you take a look at www.alexa.com you will see the world’s most popular web sites (not necessarily in this order) are google, youtube, ebay, facebook, msn, etc.

Then look at individual country statistics. Each country (Eastern, Western and in-between) seems to be quite similar — except for Mainland China.

Instead of Google, China has Baidu.
Instead of Youtube, China has Youku (and Tudou and 56)
Instead of eBay, China has Taobao
Instead of Facebook, China has Xiaonei
Instead of MSN, China has QQ.

All of these are almost exact copies.

The reason isn’t "language difference" — after all, each of those American-invented web sites has a Chinese version.

The reason isn’t "cultural difference" — we all like to read news, buy/sell things, chat, watch videos and social network.

So what’s the (economic or otherwise) reason China copies these and doesn’t innovate?

I have been in China for 2 years and I think I have it figured out — but I want to hear what you all have to say.

Thanks.

a curse.

US citizens, why don’t you start by cleaning your own house first?
Before you start criticizing other countries for their terrorism or human rights records, shouldn’t the US government clean their own house first?
For example, over the past 50 years, the United States government:

1-Supported and actively organized coups d’etat against numerous third world countries, just to defend US bussiness interests and selfish geopolitical aims.
This includes many democratically-elected governments.
Some examples are Guatemala 1954, Chile 1973, Argentina 1976, Iran (Persia) 1953, Haiti 1957, Brazil 1964, Zaire (congo) 1965, S.Korea 1979, Grenada 1983, Venezuela 2002 (failed attempt), and many more.
In my country, Argentina, ‘black lists’ with dissidents to be killed were actually written and given to our local death squads by the CIA, during the 1976-83 dictatorship.

2- Is known to practice ‘low-intensity warfare’, a set of war strategies that are actually very similar to terrorism itself in practice. This can be seen in the recent 1990’s Sudan bombings, in recent bombings of civilian populations in Iraq and Afghanistan, in the support you gave to the Nicaraguan Contras to fight the gov. of said country, during the late 1980’s. The ‘contras’ were an illegal guerrilla group, and were properly qualified as "terrorist" by the International Court of Justice.

3- Engaged in unfair economic blockades against countries that didn’t bow to US bussiness interests. (example: Iraq, Cuba)
The excuse for doing this was ‘dictatorship’, but it’s an hypocritical excuse, since other dictatorships enjoyed active US support during the same time frame.

4- Still supports numerous dictatorships around the world, specially if they are free-market and let themselves be puppeted by US policy.
Thsi includes S. Arabia, Pakistan, Qatar, Ethiopia, among others.

5- Mantains illegal "black prisions" with no right to trial and mild forms of torture, in many places in Europe and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

6- Has engaged in active industrial espionage over the past years, thanks to the Cold-war era Echelon network.

7- Has, as a country, poor democratic credentials itself, with only two parties that look very similar and a media that’s comprised of mostly large corporations that usually don’t dare to damage the interest of their partners.

My country, of course, is not perfect either… but we are not trying to be world policemen.
We are all in this together, we should try to change things to make them more fair. I’m criticizing the US gov. simply because it’s the world’s only superpower, and with that comes a large responsability.
Other countries have their crimes too (The UK, France, China and Russia come to mind), and we should not forget about those either.

It just sickens me to my stomatch when I hear the US president talk about "democracy" and "promoting human rights", when they haven’t even apologized for what they have done and are still doing, and people like Kissinger are allowed to walk the streets freely when they should be on trial for crimes against humanity.

You need no answer. Your question is a smart and informative statement. I’m a US citizen and I want much more for my country than this mess. I also want more for the world even if it means a few million dollars less to a few Americans who don’t even speak for us. They are supposed to be our servants, but we’re the ones going to work and paying half our money without any say as to what global atrocities are done with it. It’s a shame b/c this was and still can be the greatest country of all time. If we take care of the US and not just the interest of a few people, there would be peace on earth and we’ll have less domestic problems to boot. I’m actually uncomfortable typing these words in the land of the free. That makes me want to CRY!

no.

Economic: people with better work habits will always be able to afford better food than lazy ones.

Ecological: animals are necessary part of lifecycle; as long as there are animals, somebody will eat them.

Spiritual: People tend not to care about spiritual values until their basic needs (safety, food, housing) are satisfied.

Biological: you cannot raise a healthy child on a vegetarian diet.

I’m directing this question especially to conservative Christians who save it’s just bad world economic organization, not population growth, that causes 3rd world poverty. If this is true, should all American Christians take big cuts in our incomes, so the world’s poor can have more?

Simply cancel their national debt. This will provide the economic stimulus to give the people an actual chance to live in freedom.

JP II called for this in the year 2000 to help stimulate the economy worldwide. If only we would listen.

Not a penny would we lose, but only gain in assisting these countries on their way to independence and prosperity. We may have even prevented our own current economic disasters by expanding future markets back in 2000.

but France, Germany and others say they’ve spent enough and that international regulatory measures are necessary to stabalize situation. Who do you think will win this argument at the G-20? Will the world follow Obama’s spend and spend philosophy, or will the majority of nations reel in the ‘rogue, irresponsible, agressive’ US who they blame for the mess in the first place?

Obama also talked about the need for ‘global regulations’ and ‘guidelines’, but is he willing to accept them if they tell him his ’solutions’ are all wrong and won’t work?

I think it’s interesting how liberals are always talking about the United States having too much influence around the world. You know, always intervening in conflicts and being the peace keepers of the world.

So now, it’s ok for us to tell other countries how to run their economies. Hmm… It seems to me that this creates the same kind of intervention.

I’m glad Obama is worried about the global economy. He sure doesn’t seem to care about ours. "don’t watch the market…it gyrates".

Added: You said it "Ally 2". That’s exactly what it is.

Upon googling 2012, or speaking with many people in life and across these boards, many are convinced, even non-Christians that something is going to happen in 2012. Many Christians also believe that we are currently living in the end times.

What do you guys think of all of this. First with the 2012 controversy, the ancient calendars and the mayan calendar ending in that year, and of all the "we are in the end times" fuss being caused among religious types?

I’m asking from a totally objective viewpoint, no biases or subjective imput from me. I don’t want to be attacked. lol.

But if you do believe in the world ending or that we’re in the end times, what are you doing to prepare, or how are you dealing with it? Are you scared? Are you happy? Are you moving to the country? Do you think a nuclear war will happen? Will our world economic system collapse?

IF you don’t believe in that, also state why,and if you DO believe in this,

what advice would you give your fellow humans?
Is the devil behind the powers and monetary systems that make this world run? Is the devil behind anything and everything that has power and influence?

Are godly or holy people in charge of anything other than the Church and have any worldly influence?

Are Christians allowed to have worldly infulence and influence over the monetary systems of the world?

I wouldn’t live in fear of it. If the Mayan’s were so great then where are they? Gone! All calendars are based on astrology, on Dec. 21st of 2012 a very rare astrological event takes place. The Mayan calandar might only be pointing to that. This doomsday prophecy comes from someones well meaning interpretation, take it with a grain of salt, we believe we are in the "Last Days" that the bible speaks of but we are also instructed not to put a date on it. Remember the story of Jonah and how he preached to Ninevah? After he preached to them their judgement was postponed for another generation. Just live "Righteous" and don’t let things bother you.
The world keeps changing, mostly for the worst, the Bible calls this period the "great falling away" 2Thessalonians 2:3, everyone is losing there faith in God and walking after the flesh. If you want to enter Gods kingdom you have to obey his words, all of his words always lead to Righteousness, because his kingdom is a "Kingdom of Righteousness", http://www.mythoughtsweb.com/Religion_and_Spirituality.html , http://www.mythoughtsweb.com/Kingdom_Righteousnes.html , Remember the origional message preached by John the Baptist and then by Christ and his deciples? Repent for the Kingdom of heaven is at hand! So sweep you doorsteps and stay ready at all times. Repent and take your garbage to the curb. Walk righteously before your God.
