Yes, it probably was. If you look at recent history these slumps go in cycles, which almost always seem to come when the rich corporations have overextended themselves, and gambled their money away.
This is the first time I can remember tax payers money being poured into banks to save them from ruin, although it has, of course, been used in the past to help failing industries.
The problem is, that having used taxpayers money to take a controlling interest in the banks, the government has failed to control them in the way you would expect nationalised industries to be controlled, so they are now able to do exactly the same again with respect to high bonus payouts, etc.

I don’t think there are any gains in a recession. There are only losses.

When people and various organizations borrow too much money and can’t pay it back. Then both the borrowers and the lenders loose.

And when trade and commerce decreases a lot because borrowers can’t borrow any more and lenders are either unwilling or unable to lend. Then both the borrowers and the lenders loose. Workers who get laid off as a result also loose. Governments who collect less taxes as a result also loose. And perhaps people who work for the government or depend on government social programs also loose due to cut backs in government spending.

It seems like Chinese would be best, since China owns the United States, but maybe Spanish would be, since millions of illegals are about to be legalized.

Sorry neighbors but the Canadian economy is booming while the US wallows around in massive debt. Canada is creating jobs while the US is outsourcing its jobs. Economists say the Canadian dollar will surpass the US dollar later this year.

I want to answer this question with my opinion I just hope it doesn’t upset anyone, sorry if it does.

I’m not sure Canada will ever surpass the US for 2 reasons, the first is that with the presidential election looming they will undoubtedly have a better president this time around that will probably be able to turn it around after he or she undoes what Bush did in his 2 terms. And second, even if that didn’t happen, the US has a better military than we do and they could just come over here and take over. And don’t say that will never happen, for some reason some people in power in the US like to do stuff like that and even if we are their neighbours they think we are inferior and would do what they could to prove that even if it requires military occupation.

On a side note, I am proud to be Canadian and am truly ecstatic to see that we are doing so well.
